Growing your business – HR Independents’ Perspective

Growing your business as an Indie can be challenging but exciting too. Our panel will be sharing their experience and success stories as well as lessons they have learnt along the way.
Sarah Harvey – Savvy Conversations
Sarah is an experienced and highly qualified leadership, culture and conflict coach. She is also a skilled facilitator, manager mentor, and workplace mediator. A successful HR leader and OD consultant, she has worked with over 50 organisations and thousands of managers in the public, private and third sectors since she set up her consultancy practice in 2003.
Sarah is the author of these three books: ‘Savvy Conversations: A practical framework for effective workplace relationships’ (Librotas 2020). Available from Amazon and other retailers. The book is about creating workplaces and relationships that get the best from people and help people to be their best selves. It brings together compelling human psychology and communications research into a no-nonsense, practical framework and easy to understand model to show how to have the right conversations, in the right way, at the right time.

A Chartered Fellow of the CIPD and Fellow of the ILM, Sarah has a Post Graduate (Level 7) Diploma in Personnel Management and a Post Graduate (Level 7) Diploma in Leadership Mentoring and Executive Coaching. She has a passion for psychology and it’s application in the workplace and in 2017 began studying for a BSc (Hons) with the Open University.
Nikki Masterman – Inspired HR
With nearly 29 years within the field of HR, Nikki brings a no-nonsense & enthusiastic approach to HR whilst building strong and real relationships with her client base. Nikki has consistently made her mark in her corporate world career and now brings her energy, drive and enthusiasm to the SME market through her business in Newcastle.
After being invited along by a friend to her first ever networking event on the 29th March 2017 Nikki saw the potential of building a business through networking and decided to start her business on that very same day.
Through her love of networking and three and a half years later Nikki has taken her business from being a sole trader HR Indie to a Ltd Company of 7 employees & 8 associate partners. Not one to slow down Nikki now has plans to continue her business growth nationwide. In addition to running her very busy business she is also a volunteer Regional Director with BNI, a School Governor, part of the Natwest Accelerator Programme and also mentors girls aged 14-19 as part of The Girls Network Charity.
Her key to success is work hard, help others, build business partnerships and do great credible work.
Natalie Ellis – Rebox HR
Natalie Ellis is an HR Consultant and Director of Rebox HR, with a career spanning 15 years, she started her HR career at Woolworths PLC, moving on to Business Partner and HR Manager roles in the private sector before launching Rebox HR in February 2020. Natalie is a specialist in employment relations, she is a virtual HR Consultant supporting clients of all shapes and sizes throughout the UK by providing HR and employment law advice. In 7 short months, she has started her business and was named Best Virtual HR Consultancy 2020 by SME News Magazine.
She has recently written her first book “Launch Your HR Career” which is to be published on 20th November 2020, is a multi-award nominated HR blogger and works closely with the CIPD both in her local branch and as a keynote speaker.
Jacky Clarke – Clarke Learning Consultancy
Jacky has a wealth of experience as a facilitator, coach, consultant and strategist – working across a broad cross-section of industries in the private, public and non-profit sectors in the UK, Ireland, and South Africa. Realising that big business strategy could translate into micro-businesses, Jacky set up an online 12-week Business to Blueprint program that takes business owners through all the elements to set up a sustainable business that gives them work-life balance and a money-making business.
June Hogan – Wildwood Coaching
June has enjoyed a variety of roles during her 20 year HR career including HR Business Partnering, Reward and Policy, and Learning and Development. Having managed organisational change programmes and been made redundant herself, in 2019 June decided to bring together her personal and professional experience, and her coaching skills, to offer outplacement support services.
June is now the owner and Director of Wildwood Coaching Limited, a business which provides a variety of outplacement support services to values led organisations wanting to do the right and help their leavers with advice, guidance and support in preparing for a future after redundancy.
